"I get asked if it's possible, absolutely it’s possible," Heidi Grant, director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, told reporters at the Pentagon Friday. But some in Congress are working to block the deal.
Given the deal's March expiration, and despite the upcoming US election, the State Department's R. Clarke Cooper said "it’s incumbent upon us and our Japanese counterparts to actually continue to maintain focus on the negotiations now."
"If anything, the provocations are coming from Beijing. The bullying behavior...is where the provocateurs lie, not with Taiwan [which is] maintaining its own self defense," a top State Department official says.
The change would make available all Category I drones currently made by the US, including the long-loitering surveillance and armed systems which have played a key role in Washington’s counterterrorism fights.
Despite receiving billions in US military assistance, Egypt has inked some big deals with Russia in recent years for aircraft and helicopters. And Moscow says it want to do more.
